Manuel Masala walks through the Memories restaurant with menus. The restaurant is part of the Hotel Grand Resort Bad Ragaz, a star hotel in Switzerland.

The Achiever

The past year has been an exciting one for Manuel Masala. He is now responsible for the creation of products for non-alcoholic drink pairings that make the experience at Memories an unparalleled highlight, and he achieved an exceptional second-place ranking in the “marmite youngsters” competition for young talent in the restaurant industry in the “Service” category. Long-time guests may recognize Manuel from the Restaurant Bel-Air. Following the renovation of the Quellenhof, he worked at verve by sven before joining the team at Memories and moving into the area of fine dining.

While attending hotel management school, he also cultivated his interest in wine and is currently preparing for the sommelier test. Manuel, who is originally from Venice, Italy, has experienced first-hand how challenging it can be to find a balance between his professional ambitions and his private life. Two days before the final round of “marmite youngsters”, he celebrated his wedding in Italy with his friends and family, travelled back to Switzerland overnight, and wowed the jury the following day. However, Manuel sees this all as a matter of course, because for him, his career is his calling: “It’s simply a wonderful profession. Until I turn 30, I want to be like a sponge and just absorb everything. Keep learning, gaining experience, developing my skills and trying new things.”
